Beth Custer and Christian Jones founded Eighty Mile Beach in the 1990's in San Francisco after meeting at Mobius Recording Studio. They were influenced by the wave of trip-hop coming out of Bristol at the time and started jamming in Jones' studio apartment with Custer creating lyrics and melodies over Jones' beats, bass, and guitar lines.
